<![CDATA[Supernatural play published in time for Halloween]]>Fri, 30 Oct 2020 02:37:18 GMThttp://colbournpublishers.com/blog/supernatural-play-published-in-time-for-halloween“I’ve always loved Halloween and I think this is a good story for this time of year. There are spells and a fantastic, magical spirit world in this play.”
A supernatural play, about two teenagers who visit Tiger Dunlop’s tomb and get more than they bargained for, has been published in time for Halloween.

Colbourn Publishers has announced it has published, in book form, Tim B. Cumming’s historic play, The Tiger’s Lion.

The play was performed to sold-out shows, in 2003, at the historic Livery Theatre in Goderich, Ontario, Canada. This is the first time, however, that the play has been published as a book.

“I’ve always loved Halloween and I think this is a good story for this time of year,” according to the play’s author. “There are spells and a fantastic, magical spirit world in this play.” The supernatural elements of the play include appearances by literary giants of Scotland and England such as Sir Walter Scott, Susan Ferrier, Thomas Carlyle, and Lord Byron.

The play is part history, part fantasy, part tragedy, and part comedy. The play captures the indelible marks left behind by novelist turned land developer John Galt, of The Canada Company fame, and his Scottish-Canadian compatriot Dr. William 'Tiger' Dunlop. Galt has been called “the first political novelist in the English language, due to being the first novelist to deal with issues of the Industrial Revolution.” The play The Tiger’s Lion is available at ‘the world’s largest independent bookstore,’ lulu.com: The former Canadian journalist is also author of a climate change novel called Plan8 (Planet).

“There is a great deal of academic debate about John Galt’s legacy as a writer and as the first Superintendent of the Canada Company,” Cumming says. “I take the stand that Galt was a lion of a man for making his mark as a significant writer in Scotland and leaving a lasting legacy in Canada with towns like Goderich and Guelph.”

<![CDATA[Wow!]]>Fri, 28 Dec 2012 15:55:14 GMThttp://colbournpublishers.com/blog/wowAll I can say is "Wow!" I asked for musicians and these amazing talents and kind souls came forward to help out. I asked actors and writers to take part in the public reading of climatechangenovel.com and I had this amazing and generous group of people come forward. I asked for people to come listen to my book (almost 90,000 words into a first draft but not quite done yet) and 40 people - friends, family members, and interested members of the public - came out to show their support for me, for the creative process, and for the burning public issue behind this book. You have shown such faith in me, such generosity, and such support - I will endeavour heartily to reward your faith and generous spirits by completing this book, polishing it, and making it worth your investment of time, friendship, and well wishes.

<![CDATA[Thanks to my wife for supporting her dreamer husband]]>Wed, 21 Nov 2012 02:23:31 GMThttp://colbournpublishers.com/blog/thanks-to-my-wife-for-supporting-her-dreamer-husbandI owe many thanks to my patient wife for obliging my crazy dreams, like being a writer. I remember the time I wanted to be a movie actor. She didn't laugh when I began reading a movie script out loud, pulled together a comical curriculum vitae, placed my 8 X 10 glossy in an envelope, and drove to a nearby city to read for the part of a violent police officer. She drove down with me, and humoured me, and never said, "Grow up." She let me have my dream. I never got the part, of course, but I also never had to say, "What if." My beautiful bride is now supporting my latest folly - the dream of publishing a novel. Thank you, my love, for letting me dream.
